Last night N asked his brother and his girlfriend to come sit at the house after AE went to bed, so we could go have a late dinner and some time to ourselves. Now, normally AE does not take a nap (EVER), but yesterday was the one day he slept at school. Literally, he takes an afternoon nap like once every 6 months and evidently yesterday was the day. So of course he wasn’t ready to go to bed at the usual time. But I went ahead and bathed him as usual, and N read his bedtime stories and turned on his music. And then we could hear AE in there talking, and singing, and wiggling, and generally just not going to sleep. This went on for about an hour, and by this time it is getting close to 9:00 and we’re starving. Another 15 minutes go by with no evidence that he’ll be falling asleep anytime soon and this is when I make the decision. Children’s Tylenol knocks him right out, so I gave him a dose. I am awesome, no doubt about it. Drugging one’s child for selfish purposes of personal hunger – definitely makes me a candidate for some sort of a mothering prize, don’t you think? He did go right to sleep after that, though, so we were able to get away for a while.
Changing the subject (sort of) we ate at TGI Friday’s (only the second time we have eaten at a full one – usually we just hit the one in the airport – and the first time we’ve been to the new one here in town) and it was pretty good, even though the concept of “fried macaroni and cheese” is bizarre. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I also had some Electric Lemonade drink, a mix of rum, lemonade and blue curacao. It tasted good, but if you don’t like sucking lemon seeds through a straw (which I DO NOT) it may not be the drink for you. Ick. I’m sure my mother would say it isn’t ladylike to spit lemon seeds from the straw onto the beverage napkin…
