In case I haven’t already mentioned it, we live in a college town. This means that there are all sorts of opportunities for sporting events, concerts, and the like. N often gets free tickets to games through his office, so occasionally we try to go.Â
The other night we got the chance to go to a women’s basketball game. It didn’t start until 7 p.m., which is about the time we are usually putting AE to bed, but we decided to give it a try anyway. Well, long story short, we got a late start, there was a car accident that slowed things down, and then when we finally got there the parking lot was totally full. Plus the parking lots for all of the surrounding buildings. Apparently it was “Elementary School Night” or something so every kid in town was there. Anyway, we didn’t want to park a mile away since we knew that AE wouldn’t last very long – seemed kind of pointless to walk all that way just to turn around and do it again 30 minutes later. We told him that there were too many people and that we would bring him another time.
So, naturally, he was very upset about this. The whole way home he is talking about how he doesn’t like those people for being there, he doesn’t understand why there are so many people, etc. Then he starts talking about bats. At first we thought he was talking about using baseball bats to scare the people away. Then it dawned on us when he started saying “aminals” – he meant live bats. As in, flying mammals. He told us to go to the zoo so he could get some bats to scare the people away! Then for good measure, he suggested getting some lions and tigers too. You know, because the bats might not be scary enough.
So watch out for my son.  If you get in his way you may have to answer to the bats.
