N and I have a subscription to Netflix, which we like a lot. We signed up for the 2-disc plan, which means that we each have our own queue going simultaneously. So far, this has worked pretty well for us, since we do not have the same taste in movies at all. AT ALL. I can’t stay awake through one of his epic documentary-style movies (although I have gotten better about watching the subtitled foreign films he likes), and he positively loathes the mindless horror flicks that I enjoy.

Usually he refuses to even sit down in the same room when I am watching one of “my” movies. But last night I managed to talk him into watching The Cave with me, on the condition that he could make as many disparaging remarks as he liked. So we did. And five minutes in, I was making plenty of remarks myself.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, don’t bother. It was very, very bad. I have a high tolerance for bad movies. I have seen a lot of them, and usually I can find something entertaining to make the movie worthwhile. But this one didn’t even really have a cohesive plot. Plus, several of the lead characters were generic-looking twenty-something white guys and we couldn’t tell them apart. Seriously – we spent half the movie saying “Who is that? Is that Tyler? Or Briggs? That doesn’t look like the Briggs from earlier. What happened to him?”. The editing was bad, the action scenes were confusing, and the sound kept going in and out (that last one may or may not have been the fault of the filmmakers). Also, it seemed to be (badly) ripping off plot points and ideas from other movies – we saw elements of Predator, Alien, and Pitch Black to name a few. And lastly, it used the word “scout” waaaaay too much – we decided too late that it would have been a great drinking game.
So in short: The Cave – an hour and a half of your life that you will want back.

By the way, I’ve decided to start reviewing all the movies that I watch, whether via Netflix or on TV. I figure that I have an abundance of opinions and I might as well share them!!
