This weekend was an eventful one for me as far as movie-watching – I got to see two movies in their entirety! Woo! Anyway, on to the reviews. I’ll try to avoid spoilers.

The first one was Music and Lyrics. Actually went to the theater for that one, which I haven’t done in quite some time. Can’t even remember the last movie I saw in the theater now that I think about it…but I digress. It was pretty good for what it was – definitely a chick flick. Not necessarily the funniest or most romantic movie ever, but I thought it was cute. The part I had a problem with was the voice they dubbed in as Hugh Grant’s singing voice. It just didn’t match his speaking voice at all and quite frankly I found it extremely disconcerting (along with the “young” Hugh in the Pop music video. All that makeup didn’t make him look young at all, just a little creepy.). But Drew Barrymore was good (and looking quite slim) even if her character was a little neurotic. And Kristen Johnston cracked me up as Drew’s older sister. Overall a cute movie as long as you aren’t expecting too much.

The second movie I watched this weekend was Shaun of the Dead. Very funny. I never know what to expect with British comedy – either I just don’t get it (Monty Python falls into this category) or I find it hilarious. This one fell into the latter category. The scene where Shaun and Ed are trying to kill some zombies by throwing old records was great. The whole thing moved at just the right pace – just enough back-story so that you know the characters but not so much that you’re bored. I highly recommend this one, but maybe not if you have a really weak stomach. It’s a little on the gory side for a comedy. IMDb classifies it as a horror movie too, but that is definitely a secondary classification.

So in short: Music and Lyrics – good but girly. Shaun of the Dead – freakin’ hilarious.
