Tomorrow morning AE’s friend Tommy will be coming to our house for a few hours. AE is beyond excited about this, I am less thrilled. I mean, Tommy’s a good kid and all but I am not used to hosting other peoples’ children in my home. What if he gets hurt? What if he’s allergic to something? Like cats? Or dogs? What if he’s afraid of dogs? So many variables. I’m beginning to understand why my mom always seemed to balk whenever I asked to have a friend come play.Â

Miss T has an incredibly runny nose, which is not making it easy for her to sleep. Poor little thing sounds like she’s drowning. I’m using the dreaded sucky bulb thingy at every opportunity, but it pisses her off so badly I don’t want to overdo it. Hopefully the snot is not a harbinger of a more serious illness. I choose to believe it is just a mild summer cold that will be gone in a few days. Better living through denial – I’m thinking of making this my new life motto.

We’re headed down to the Swamp of Enchantment (Lake Jackson, which apparently far more people are familiar with than I realized) tomorrow afternoon. We haven’t been down since Memorial Day weekend, so the relatives are clamoring to see Miss T. (AE has spent so much time down there this summer that he’s old news at this point, poor guy. And it isn’t over – we’ll be leaving him there, despite my increasing Guilt over how much he’s been away from home the past few months.) It is also my mother-in-law’s birthday so it seemed like a good opportunity to make the trip. It always is a bit of a hassle though – we have to make arrangements for the dog, gather up a zillion different baby-related accoutrements, pack clothes for ourselves. And of course since AE is staying down there for a few more weeks I have to wash up his stuff tonight and pack practically every article of clothing he owns. Oh well, it will be nice to see my extended family and I always enjoy having somewhere else to be, even if it is a place with flying donkeys the size of dinner plates.

Next weekend N and I are going to San Antonio, and I am super-excited for a number of reasons:
- TWO NIGHTS in a hotel without kids. Which translates to two whole nights of glorious sleep. What, you were thinking something else?
- The River Walk. LOVE.
- Fabulous Mexican food and excellent margaritas.
- The Dark Knight on IMAX. (Which I haven’t mentioned to my husband until just now. Hi honey, I would like to go see The Dark Knight at this theater! Thanks!)
- Did I mention the opportunity to sleep uninterrupted? For two nights in a row?
- I will probably get my long-awaited tattoo.
I am PUMPED! Next Friday cannot get here soon enough. Have a good weekend, everybody!
