About a boy

AE is SO EXCITED to start kindergarten on Monday.  We saw his classroom and met his teacher last night, and he just can’t stop talking about it.  Actually, he can’t stop talking about the Math Center.  To me it just looked like a small bookshelf containing number-related puzzles and games, but to aspiring mathematicians it is apparently Shangri-La.  Did you see the Math Center, I love the Math Center, this is the best school because it has a Math Center!  And did you see the GAMES in the Math Center?  Fine by me.  Any kid who loves math that much will have an easier time of it than I did.

He is also totally pumped that today is his last day of preschool, but not for the reasons you might expect.  I believe the exact quote after his bath last night was Tomorrow is my last day at my old school so I only have to survive one more two-hour naptime!  Dude has his priorities.

Shiny happy babies

Miss T has been battling another cold over the last few days, but as of the wee hours this morning I think she is feeling better.  I know that because I heard her fussing and grumbling over the monitor at 3:15 a.m.  When I went in to check on her, I found that she had pulled to standing on the crib rail and was grinning while bouncing up and down.  It’s hard to be grumpy about middle-of-the-night awakenings when the culprit is that cheerful.  Silly little monkey.

We like to move it, move it

Much like myself, AE has been entranced with the Olympics for the last two weeks.  Beach volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis – you name it, he is fascinated.  We were sitting on the couch a few nights ago and a promo came on advertising the gymnastics exhibition that would air later that evening.  AE mused that he would like to compete at the Olympics someday.  Oh yeah?  I said.  Well then you’ll need to pick a sport and work really really hard at it.  What sport would you like to try?  While he was mulling it over, an ad came on for a local gym.  Not surprisingly, he immediately decided on gymnastics.

I don’t necessarily think that gymnastics will be the sport for him, as quite a good amount of it requires you to be well off the ground – the high bar, rings, etc.  (AE + heights = not so much.)  But I want to encourage him to try plenty of different activities so I’m happy to let him give it a go.  Classes start in September, and the gym I called assures me that they have plenty of experience working with young kids.  So we’ll see.

The Olympics have also motivated me to get off my lazy duff and sign up for dance classes again.  The place I was taking last year (before I got too pregnant to move) is well across town and the schedule of adult classes wasn’t really great for me.  However, there is a studio virtually within spitting distance of my house and yesterday I discovered that they offer an adult class from 8:45 to 9:45 p.m. once a week.  Perfect!  The kids will be in bed and I won’t have to drive 20 minutes to get there.  The monthly tuition is also markedly less than what I was paying before.  It’s a win-win-win.

Bizarre rumination of the day

Have you ever been in a roomful of people that are having an innocent conversation and suddenly been gripped by an almost uncontrollable urge to yell at them all to SHUT UP, OMG PLEASE STOP TALKING RIGHT NOW!  Just me?  Okay then.
