This has been quite the banner weekend.  We’re having milestones – albeit delayed ones – all over the place!

On Friday night, we had our first-ever non-family member paid babysitter for both kids.  I KNOW.  Seven years of parenting, and we’ve never had a regular babysitter.  We’ve almost always managed to finagle free sitting from friends or relatives, saving our “date nights” for when we visit The Swamp, or taking an afternoon off work to catch a movie while the kids are already taken care of.  Lame, yes, but this is how we roll.  We did have a college girl who babysat for AE once or twice when we lived up near Dallas (over 5 years ago), but that’s it.

This sitter is one of the student workers in Miss T’s daycare class, so I was comfortable leaving Miss T asleep, knowing that she’d recognize Lindsey if she happened to awaken.  And AE is old enough to not mind us leaving.  He was just happy to have someone else to ramble to about Wii games and other various nonsense.  We weren’t gone a terribly long time, but it went well and I think we’ll definitely ask her to sit for us again.  Not to mention, it’s just nice to know that there’s someone we can call if we are having some sort of Social Emergency that requires an immediate babysitter.  I have no idea what sort of situation that would be, but now we’re prepared for it should it arise!  WOOT.

And yesterday, AE had his very first “official” birthday party, complete with friends and not just family!  I’ve been putting it off for years, waiting until he actually asked for one before putting myself through the mess and expense of planning and throwing a party.  But this year he asked to have a party at a local moonwalk place (you know, inflatable bouncy castles and whatnot) and so we agreed.  It was kind of pricey, but worth it.  They provide everything but the cake, which is nice, and pretty much run the party so the parents don’t have to worry about it.  Overall, everything went well (though I am very glad it’s over until next year).  AE had a great time, so I suppose that’s all that matters.

Incidentally, I still can’t believe my little guy is seven.
