We have mobility! Miss T rolled over from her back to her tummy for the first time yesterday. She was so proud of herself, too – once she did it, she got very smiley and started cooing and kicking excitedly. Too funny. Hopefully we can get a series of “action shot” photos this weekend. (Which N will then post on his blog because I still can’t manage it here. GAH.)
In other (somewhat more pathetic) child-related news, evidently my son decided to skip a step while getting dressed this morning. He’s still not big on dressing himself, he would much rather I do it for him. He was never one of those toddlers that would scream “I do it myself”, and the trend continues well into his 6th year of life (is that right? He’s 5 1/2 so he’s working on his 6th year?). He just flat doesn’t care. Anyway, he told me that he needed help with his shirt. When I went to help him, I didn’t see his pajama shorts anywhere. I was about to ask him what he did with his PJs when I saw the telltale waistband sticking out from under his khaki shorts. But now that I think about it, maybe this is progress! Usually when I tell him to get dressed he strips completely naked. Finally all those discussions about wearing underwear with our school clothes have sunk in. Milestones all around!
Speaking of clothes, I hate all of mine. I can’t fit into most of them yet, and some of them I do fit into but should not wear because of the baby pooch I still have. Apparently before I got pregnant I really liked to wear shirts that hit me at the hip. But since all of the pants I can actually wear are currently, shall we say, rather ill-fitting, shirts that short are not do-able. And I only have one pair of jeans that I can comfortably wear – I purchased them shortly after Miss T was born and have lost another 5 pounds or so since then. So those jeans are now too big and are baggy in places, which looks bad, but all of my other jeans are too small so they give me muffin top, which looks worse. I guess what I’m saying here is I WANT MY PRE-BABY BODY BACK NOW PLEASE. But to be fair, if I truly expect to lose any more weight I’m going to have to get off my lazy duff and exercise. For some reason I can’t seem to work up the motivation to hit the treadmill – maybe when Miss T is consistently sleeping through the night I’ll have more energy. At least this is what I keep telling myself.
Well! Enough of that whining, it is boring even me. I have a completely unrelated question: does anyone else think that Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (with Gene Wilder) is totally creepy? It was on TV last night so of course N kept turning it back to that channel because he knows I hate it. I don’t know, I just don’t think it is a kids’ movie! The Oompaloompas are freaky with their orange skin and white eyebrows, the kid playing Charlie looks like a little old man, and Gene Wilder just gives me the willies (hee! I’m so punny). Also, that scene in the boat was obviously put together by someone who was high at the time. N and I were discussing the movie and he maintains that it is not geared toward my demographic so that’s why I don’t like it. However, I didn’t like it when I was a kid either. Is it just me? Am I missing something? Even setting the creep factor aside I don’t find it to be a particularly interesting movie. Thoughts?
