So!  You know what hasn’t happened around here in a while?  Friday randomness.  And that doesn’t require much thought, so sign me up!

Yesterday as I was driving home, I passed a smallish sofa that was sitting in the middle of the road.  Then this morning I passed a basketball goal in the middle of the exact same road.  It was just about a quarter-mile further down, sitting upright, as though it had been placed there intentionally.  Weird.

Last night in the course of flipping channels my husband discovered that 2001: A Space Odyssey was on AMC.  It received an honorable mention on my Special Movie Hate List but clearly it had been a while since I had seen it.  Because WOW.  I really don’t understand how this snore-fest got 8.4 stars (out of 10) on IMDb, nor do I understand why it is on the Top 250 List.  Maybe I am missing something, but ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.  Z!  The music is good, I will give it that.  But that is ALL that I will give it since watching for more than 5 minutes almost induced a coma.  I’m actually lucky to be alive at all, because if it were possible to die from boredom this movie would do it for me.

Before N got control of the remote last night, I watched a portion of Saw II.  Why do I do this?  What is this macabre fascination I have with sick, twisted horror movies?  Now I’m going to have to rent it, because I watched just enough of it to get interested.  I haven’t seen the original, though, so I guess I better start there.  What is wrong with me?  (Don’t answer that.)

Speaking of horror movies and the watching thereof, may I just say that I am VERY disappointed in the available selection of scary movies on TV so far this October?  Usually at least one channel (most likely AMC or SciFi) does some month-long tribute to creepy films.  I always look forward to Halloween for this very reason.  It appears that AMC is finally kicking off a Fear Fest tonight, but I still feel cheated.  That’s 3 1/2 wasted weeks of the spookiest month of the year.  Rip off!

We’re heading out of town in the morning for a rather full weekend.  One of my best high school girlfriends is turning 30, and her husband is throwing a cocktail party for her at The Grove.  So tomorrow morning we are driving down to The Swamp, where N and I will leave the kids with my parents and get dressed all fancy-like for champagne and appetizers Saturday night.  Then Sunday morning the church I grew up in is having a 60th anniversary celebration, so I’ll take the kids to that in the morning.  Then it is off to my grandma’s house for lunch, in celebration of the family October birthdays (that would be my husband, my father and my grandmother herself).  Then we have to load back up in time to catch Miss T’s afternoon nap on the drive home.  (She continues to be a pretty crabby little traveler.)  Blah!  I’m already tired and I haven’t even begun packing yet.

And finally, I shall leave you with a picture that just makes me laugh and laugh.  We have to move our dog’s food and water out of Miss T’s reach, and the expression on the poor puppy’s face in this picture just kills me.  You can practically see her thinking As if it’s not bad enough that the kid takes my dignity by constantly poking me in the eyeball and pulling my tail, now she has stolen my food, too!

Happy Friday to all!  Have a great weekend!
