THANK GOD it is time for Friday randomness, because today my thinking skills = zero. I went out for drinks with a friend last night so between that, Miss T’s ill-timed and long-lasting nighttime waking and the fact that my husband had to be at work earlier than usual I am not nearly functioning at peak capacity. I don’t think there’s enough coffee in the world to wake me up today.

The following was sent out to everyone at my workplace this morning (as a follow-up to an earlier e-mail saying one of the large community printers was down): “If you have not been officially trained to remove paper jams PLEASE DO NOT TRY. Please contact a member of MIS to clear the jam from the printer. Thank you for your cooperation.” Am I the only one that finds this funny? Paper Jams: How to Cope, to be offered Friday afternoon at 3:30. Certificates provided upon successful course completion.

Fun information I obtained today: It is possible for a 5-year-old’s eyeball to bruise if it is accidentally poked by another child’s finger during “circle time”. This results in a phone call from the daycare, a trip to the doctor, use of special eye drops and a blacklight, a prescription for more eye drops and instructions to keep the child “quiet” for the next day or so. Fortunately, the human eyeball is remarkably resilient so the child in question should be fully healed within 24-36 hours.

When I finally made it back to bed after my wee-hours adventure with Miss T, I lay there and watched TV for a half-hour (as is my custom – the theory being that if I haven’t heard from her again in that space of time she’s most likely down for the count). Three o’clock in the morning tends to be the black hole of TV but this time The Silence of the Lambs was on. It really is an excellent movie, and if you haven’t seen it you should give it a try. I realize that this genre is not for everyone, but come on – five Oscar wins! This is NOT your standard cheesy horror flick. It is cold and downright disturbing in places. All of the acting is fantastic, the roles were well cast and convincingly portrayed. I’ve always found the opening credits an interesting touch – they look like they were done on someone’s home video camera and it really helps complete the chilling feel. I have read the book as well (more than once, in fact) and it is also worth your time.
On a marginally related note, what is up with the “plot keywords” on IMDb? I look at that site quite a bit (obviously) and this seems to be a fairly new function. It also appears to be quite useless, unless I am really missing something. For example, what the hell is this? Do we really need that as a keyword? I’m thinking not, since it is the only entry in that category. Or how about this? Really, IMDb? There are less than 100 movies in the entire world that could be categorized with the keyword “bad guy”? What good is this as a search function? Am I using it wrong? Or do I not properly understand the concept of a keyword?

I had these mini-cinnamon rolls at a party that I went to on Wednesday night and they were AWESOME. If I’m feeling adventurous I may try making them tomorrow evening, since for the umpteenth weekend in a row we have no grand plans.
