This morning AE was lounging on my bed and harassing the cat when suddenly he announced “Her heartbeat smells like fur!”  Um, what? I questioned him and pointed out that heartbeats don’t smell like anything and he clarified further with “It SOUNDS like thunder but it SMELLS like fur!” Okay then.
Speaking of AE, I was wrong. He went with hidden option D, which was probably the most obvious but also the one thing I didn’t seriously consider: he spent the money on souvenirs. Duh. So he is now the proud owner of a small stuffed cow that moos and a yellow Blue Bell coin purse (which he hilariously refers to as a “changing purse”). But he did actually bring home some change so I am proud of him for that. My little boy is growing up! *sob*
He’s not the only one growing up. Miss T has been doing quite well with the “solid” foods I finally broke down and introduced early last week. I had been putting it off for a while because…well, to be perfectly honest mostly because I am lazy. Finally I gave in since every woman I encounter that mothered beginning in the 70s (my mother, my mother-in-law, some of my co-workers) was INSISTENT that lack of solid food was the cause of her night-wakings. (Side note: my mother keeps talking about some apparent miracle item she used with me, called an infa-feeder. I keep ignoring her because I had never heard of this and come on, it has been over 20 years since she cared for an infant so how could it possibly still exist IF it ever did? Well, I’ll be damned. Sorry, Mom.) It hasn’t helped much on the sleeping front, but either way she willingly accepts more food than she spits out so I consider that success. And if those blasted teeth ever poke through her gums we’ll be well on the way to foods that are actually solid and not just marginally thicker than formula.
Miss T is also dangerously close to being a mobile baby. She is almost crawling and I fully expect it to happen any day now. She can already move quite a good distance by scootching backwards on her belly, and she can push up on all fours ready to go. All she needs to do is figure out the forward motion part and she’ll be golden. Let the babyproofing begin.
Mostly unrelated miscellany:
- I have really, really, really got to clear out my closet sometime this weekend. I have a rather sizeable walk-in and it is such a mess right now that I live in constant fear of not making it out alive.
- I have changed up my work schedule a little bit – now instead of 8-5 with an hour for lunch I’m going 8-4:30 with just a half-hour at lunchtime. Not a huge difference, but I really think it will help me feel more relaxed in the evenings. Before I felt like I was rushing straight from work into dinner then bathtimes then bedtimes with no break in between, and I didn’t even really get to sit down until after 8 p.m. Hopefully this extra half-hour will let me get a head start before N gets home with the kids.Â
- It appears that AE will be going on his first real playdate this weekend. I know, lame, right? The poor kid is almost 6! I have just always figured that since he sees his friends at school every day there was no need to mess with it on the weekends. Also, see above re: LAZY MOM. But anyway, his best friend’s mom suggested it after seeing the two of them interact during yesterday’s field trip (brave soul went as a chaperone, HELLS NO, I say). So he’ll be going to their house on Saturday morning.
- Next weekend we have our annual family portrait session scheduled. Ought to be interesting this year – one more outfit to coordinate, one more face to look at the camera, one more child to wrangle. If we get one or two decent shots I will declare it a smashing success.
- I have had a Netflixed copy of The Bourne Ultimatum sitting at home since approximately April 25. Add that to the list of things to do this weekend. EITHER WATCH THE THING OR SEND IT BACK FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
